Aranya Green Belt Project

Citizens, corporates, and civic agencies co-created a continuous green belt in Gurugram’s Aranya community.

Project Overview

From barren stretch to climate shield.

Egis India Consulting, GMDA Haryana, and resident volunteers partnered with Hara Jeevan to convert a neglected verge into a biodiversity buffer that cools the neighborhood and inspires stewardship.

  • Location: Sector 108, Gurugram • Footprint: 1.8 km linear green belt hugging the township edge.
  • Started with waste removal, soil conditioning, and storm-water diversion to prepare the site.
  • Phased plantations introduced native trees, herbal patches, and pollinator gardens.
  • Behaviour-change campaigns and signage keep the belt zero-waste and citizen owned.

How this story was built

Clean & prepare

Began with waste removal, soil aeration, and irrigation trenches executed with civic workers.

Joint plantation days

Egis India, GMDA, and resident groups planted native species together through the monsoon season.

Community makers

Workshops taught children to build eco-art, herbal gardens, and recycled seating.

Stewardship pods

Volunteer pods manage watering, pruning, and cleanliness drives via WhatsApp alerts.

Community Engagement

Children as climate storytellers.

Student councils led awareness walks, painted sustainability walls, and hosted zero-waste kiosks during every plantation season.

  • Eco clubs curate herbal garden trails and pollinator counts.
  • Residents host composting demos and seed-ball workshops.
  • Seasonal newsletters share data on canopy cover, bird sightings, and waste diversion.
